Wine News from Around the World

At Uncorked Cincinnati our mission is to celebrate the past, present and future of Cincinnati’s wine industry and culture.  We feel a big part of celebrating the future of Cincinnati wine lies in keeping up to date on the wine industry and culture in the U.S. and around the world.  Each week we will strive to bring you interesting wine articles so we can stay up to date together.

The Top 5 Wine iPhone Apps (from Palate Press)
The folks at VinTank took a long, hard look at wine-related iPhone apps and came up with their top 5 recommendations.  Among the top recommended apps is Hello Vino, an app that I’ve had for several months.  It’s a fantastic tool for food pairings as you get wine recommendations based on meal or food type, occassion, taste or style, and country or region.

How To Be a Smarter Wine Shopper (from Food & Wine)
Pretty timely article as we approach the Holiday buying season.  F&W shows us how to navigate every part of a wine store, from the discount bins to the cabinets under lock-and-key, and come home with a delicious bottle.  I especially love the tip on “Staff Wisdom.”

Autumn Whites from Austria (from Good Wine Under $20)
I have to admit I’ve yet to try an Austrian wine but this article has me intrigued.  As the article states, Austrian wines have an earthiness that makes them a great partner for squash, pumpkin, turkey, sage – a lot of the foods and flavors we’ll have on our tables in the near future.

Washington State Wine Country
This is a link to the Washington Wine Country website, not a special article, but the site is well done and worth a browse.  With more than 600 wineries Washington ranks 2nd in wine production in the US behind California.  The Napa Valley is still the undisputed US “wine country” destination, but Washington is quickly becoming a top choice as well.

The Wine Library TV Highlight Reel
Wine Library TV is home base for unconventional wine reviewer, Gary Vaynerchuk.  Gary is one of my favorite people in the wine industry because he’s passionate about getting people enjoying and exploring wine.  The video below (or via this link) takes you through the history of Wine Library TV, which I’d highly recommend subscribing to if you’re interested in learning about wine in a very unique way.
